Today we begin a new series for the Atari ST and possibly other Platforms. This series will choose 10 games in a specific genre from the machine’s library and examine it’s evolution over the life of the platform

Today we will look at one on one fighters, a genre commonly called Beat’ em ups. Not scrolling or platforms beat em ups, but purely the one on one genre that started with simple boxing games on the 2600 and other cartridge systems and in the arcade with Techno’s Karate Champ

By far the Best  8bit game of this Type of International Karate by Archer Mclean. This was ported to many platforms, including the ST. The big question we want to answer here, is whether or not that 8-bit ultimate classic was ever bettered in a  significant way on the ST.

Special note about my playthrough of these games. I did NOT want to read any instructions to play them so I didn’t really study up any controls other than those that happened to be mentioned in the reviews. Fair or not, a single button and a single stick should be pretty easy to figure out if a game has been designed well.
On that note, I also decided to not use any cheats either as I wanted to experience each of these as they were intended.
